Ventrilo Server Fiasco and Other Great News

It's been a strange couple of days mainly due to the fact that my Ventrilo server was abruptly shut down due to the lack of correspondence between the server provider and Flagship Industries, the makers of Ventrilo. Flagship also noted that NRGservers had poor customer service and they did not pay the licensing fees that they needed to run the servers. It was quite a surprise to me and it caught me off-guard.

I thought that I made a sound investment with NRGservers but it ended up to be a $72 loss and PayPal, despite numerous customer complaints about the provider, denied my claim saying it lacked any substance and even if it did, it was the exchange of virtual goods and thus, it wasn't even a valid dispute to begin with.

I set up a new server on TypeFrag and so far, so good. I'm paying $72 for this server on an annual basis. Unlike NRGservers' plan, this server has 25 maximum slots whereas I had 50 before for the same price. Right now, it looks like the Ventrilo server has made a successful recovery but now my trust with these providers has diminished significantly and that mistrust has dwindled down to paranoia at one point.

In other news, I've been approved by Google to have an AdSense account so I've been taking advantage of that and hopefully, I can get enough clicks to earn some decent revenue. I'm trying to maximize all potential revenue streams so the financial support for AV doesn't all come out of my pocket. I would pay for everything without advertising and go commando, but the problem is that the site will remain the way it is without significant improvements. If I had some money--coming in--to offset the costs, then there would be more room for growth. In my mind, I'm always trying to make things bigger and better for the greater good.

People have been asking me, "So what are your plans with having a convention?"

Well, the convention just an idea at this point that was conceived after I asked myself: wouldn't it be nice if there was one for us? The forums are slowly but steadily increasing in member growth and interest, but I'm looking to have a solid and active foundation before I establish any planning commissions but assuming that the rate of growth will stay consistent from now to next year, I wouldn't be surprised to have a convention in Summer 2009. That's a more realistic date, but I prefer not to be too enthusiastic about setting any sort of date or timeline. When progress is being made, I will make an announcement and form a planning commission.
